Hot mix works well when scale is clear

For larger planned resurfacing or structural repair, hot mix asphalt can be the right process. It fits scheduled work, machine placement and larger quantities.

Cold patch works when speed matters

Cold lay tarmac repair material can be stored, transported in bags and used for smaller defects without a hot mix plant arriving at the site. This can reduce waiting time for urgent potholes, especially in car parks, industrial yards and access roads.

The right question

The question is not whether cold patch replaces hot mix. The better question is: which small repairs are currently too slow, too expensive or too disruptive for the normal process?
